Bank Holiday Sundays are great. It’s like having two Saturdays in a week-end, right next to each other. To celebrate the fact, we headed down town to a ‘new’ (or re-branded, I dunno, there was previously a restaurant in the same building) Indian, of which there is something of a buzz at the moment, Bombay Pickles.

Earlier that day I mentioned to my barber that we were going to try it and she gushingly recommended it, so I was expecting great things. Any good? Well, service wise I thought it was excellent. The waiters were pleasant and very quick, placed napkins on our laps – normally I’d do that myself, as I can, but not having to appealed to the lazy bone in me. Also, before the meal arrives, you get complimentary Bombay Mix nibbles.

Food wise? No better or worse than, say, the established Cellars restaurant, which is just over the road. Here’s the Onion Bhaji I ordered, nice and crunchy.

Mains, I went for the Stourbridge Special, below. Was it special? It was ok. Just a tomato based curry with Lamb and Chicken Tikka. It came dressed with thin egg omelette which was good, but lots of unnecessary spirally Cucumber and Carrot spaghetti doesn’t do it for me – it may for you. The plate was pretty ‘special’ though. One of those mega-rimmed bowls.

Others ordered the vegetarian Mushroom Sagwala, the Bombay Memsaab Special, and the Zingha Masala, all looked good and I heard no complaints.

Other nice touches were the free Ice Cream taster to cleans the palate after the meal, and complimentary shot of Baileys. I guess its those things that will make you return, which, to be fair, I most likely will.

Prices are OK and with wine and beer was around £25 a head. The beers’ draught Cobra by the way.

Bombay Pickles has a website, you may want to click here.
