A trip to Yorkshire to see the mighty U.S band ‘Y & T’ gave us an excuse to try Holmfirths’ Shimla restaurant.
As you walk up the steep steps- its on the upper floor- you may notice press cuttings when reaching the top from local newspapers stating those steps are a Stairway to Heaven.
Well, its very good. Nice decor and pleasant staff, who were interested to find out where we came from, as we don’t sound like the locals. First time I have ever been asked if I’m Scottish though.
Food is superb – I had the Deshi Special – a fully spiced Chicken Tikka dish and three Chapatis – I was hungry – washed down with Draught Kingfisher. My wife had the Badamay Murgh, nutty and creamy with Mushroom rice.
I’m pretty sure my mates’ (handsomely photographed by myself below) wife Jayne had a Naga Chilli lamb dish and I was offered a sample. It was hot while not volcanic, and the lamb melted in the mouth.
If you’re in Holmfirth, Shimla is well worth a visit.
